. PHANTASMAGORIA - WHAT'S THAT ?

According to several dictionaries, Phantasmagoria is a bizarre or fantastic combination, collection or assemblage. It is also a constantly shifting complex succession of things seen or imagined. Finally, in 18th and 19th Century they used name Phantasmagoria for weird pre-cinema ghost shows, based on optical illusion. (Read more at Wikipedia .)

Our vision of the festival is based on all of these definitions. Phantasmagoria is just an amazing and surprising art event, involving various art disciplines and various approaches, happening in little hamlet in Ontario..

. HISTORY OF PHANTASMAGORIA

Phantasmagoria used to be run by artist Andrzej Maciejewski, one of our members, from 2001 to 2004 in small village Moscow, Ontario (just few kilometers from Yarker, the present location). Even being a small-scale, private event, it gathered hundreds of people. Already after first edition it became sort of legend, attracting artists and art-lovers from various places in Canada and from overseas. There were concerts (bands like: Loofka, Afrodisiac, Drummers from Senegal), art slide-shows, films, story-telling and other attractions and once even a wedding.
Due to the changes in his personal life Andrzej moved out from Moscow and that's how old Phantasmagoria ended. Now we are reviving it in new, wider formula and new location.
Here you can find a description of two interesting installations that took part during old Phantasmagoria.

. PHANTASMAGORIA 2010 - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Out in the Sticks Cultural Association invites artists from all fields: music, theatre, dance, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, installations, street-art and others to participate in Phantasmagoria 2010 in Yarker, Ontario.
The festival will last three days, from September 10th to 12th, 2010. We will hold several art exhibitions, open-air concerts and performances, film and video projections and artwork slide-shows. We are open for proposals. Our programming is flexible and even the most out-of-the-box ideas may be accepted.
At this stage we are not sure how big (or small) our budget will be. As such we are not able to guarantee payment for your participation. Please indicate your financial expectations in your application. We are looking for sponsors and free donations from the public, which should enable us to cover all technical costs. Since that might not be enough to cover high artists' fees, voluntary participation will be highly appreciated.

Please send description of your art/proposed activity/project to submissions@outinthesticks.ca.
